Get to know Vanessa...

Our thunder from down-under.

Tell us about your (professional) self?

I started out as a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed junior designer at a greeting card company where I honed my typography, illustration, and pun-making skills. I then spent a few years with one of Australia’s largest value-fashion retailers, developing campaign, marketing, and strategic design, before stepping out of the frying pan and into the fire of agency life. I instantly fell in love with the variety of clients, scope of work, and fast-paced nature of jumping from real estate to rebranding, packaging design to websites. I was hooked. After four rewarding years as a senior designer, I stepped up to a Creative Director role, managing a team of three designers, before relocating to Bath in the UK with my partner.

So... why Transform?

Transform really stood out to me when I met the people here. It has a great reputation, and an even better list of clients — but the people working here are so knowledgeable, passionate, and are exactly the professionals I knew I wanted to work with. During my interview, I got the chance to chat with the broader team before the role was offered to me and, on the way home, all I could think was: “wow I really want to work with these people.”

What keeps you
driven, passionate
and challenged?

Design is a thrilling yet challenging field, blending art and science through the creativity of passionate professionals. I’m captivated by how design can blur these lines and how different designers tackle similar challenges. As a designer and an optimist, I seek inspiration in unconventional places—whether it’s galleries, nature reserves, Instagram, or even the bottom of a coffee cup. My visual and tactile nature makes the vibrant, immersive aspects of design a natural fit for me.

Enough business...what do you do for fun?

I love discovering new coffee shops and sipping on a good brew while I dive into a book—especially if it features dragons, witches, or some intense drama. I’m also a big fan of live music, shows, and comedy, and you can bet I’m there if drag is on the bill. Love a good coffee date. When I’m not lost in a book, you’ll find me sewing and making clothes or experimenting in the kitchen, particularly with desserts and sweets. I also enjoy getting outdoors for bushwalks and hikes whenever I can. Oh! Did i mention my (not at all low key) love of coffee?...
